Sugar, Sugar

Our nutrition workshops continue on 17th July concentrating on sugar. This is great workshop particularly leading up to the summer holidays.

How much ice cream (with chocolate flake/strawberry sauce, of course) can you/should you really eat?  how many glasses of wine can you enjoy?

Holidays are a huge challenge. Whether self catering or all inclusive the calories and sugar are just waiting to hit the waistline.

Making small changes to your choices of food and drink can make a difference on the scales and these changes, once you get the hang of them, won’t mean you can’t enjoy your food but its means you can enjoy the results

If you can’t make the workshop, Geraldine is running another drop-in session on  2nd July.  If you have any general nutrition questions or would like some free advice pop in.

Sing, Sing A Song, Sing It Loud!

Inspired by the many physical and mental benefits group singing can bring Mark Timms (former Musical Director at the Garrick Theatre), is running 2  ‘taster’ sessions on Monday 8th and 22nd July from 7pm-9pm.

Everyone is welcome to come along to ‘Sing for Wellbeing’.  No experience is necessary – we are doing it for fun.

Researchers around the globe are continuing to find physical and mental benefits of singing in a group:

  • Increased variability of heart rate
  • Improved posture/breathing
  • Increased oxygenation
  • Improved immune system
  • Improved concentration
  • Reduction in stress and anxiety
  • Increase in the ‘happiness hormones’
  • Improved social contact

Can’t sing or read music?

Try la-la’ing a well-known tune to a friend and if they recognise it you should be fine!

Practice and repetition will help you recognise how a melody runs so don’t worry about reading music (but it would be good to remember your glasses so you can see the words)!

If the taster sessions are a success, we will begin the group later in the year.  No performances, no pressure just a chance to try something different – have some fun.
